Students get 8 hours of practice driving in key areas around town, like Main Street near the Niantic Boardwalk or up and down I-95. In this course, we cover distinct skills like speed management, right-of-way defensive driving, and more.

8 Hour Driving Course

The Next Street’s 8 Hour Driving Course meets the minimum driver education requirement that new Connecticut drivers need before they take their road test. It teaches all state driving laws, road sign standards, basic vehicle control, and important lessons in drug and alcohol awareness.

All our classes are taught live online by an instructor through Zoom. You’ll get lessons from a local who knows the Niantic area as well as you.

Note: Private driving lessons are not included in this course but can be added on when signing up. Behind-the-wheel practice lets you drive along the streets of East Lyme or around Pattagansett River with valuable feedback from our expert instructors.

For our students’ convenience, we offer classes in one 8-hour day (adults only), two 4-hour days, or four 2-hour days.

Driving Lessons

Private Driving Lessons

From our location at 8 W. Main Street or one of our other nearby schools, students can take 2-hour driving lessons with one of our certified driving instructors. Through supervised driving practice, our expert instructors help students understand the common driving conditions of coastal Connecticut and experience real-life scenarios they will have to deal with once they get their license.

To ensure students maintain comfort and confidence as they learn, instructors carefully design practice sessions based on their skill level, personalizing lessons to their needs. As drivers improve, they will work on more advanced skills like speed control, parking maneuvers, highway driving, and so on.

New drivers learn to navigate Route 161 and I-95, mastering the daily rhythms of traffic and how to drive through them.

Mock License Test Driving Lesson

This is a focused 2-hour session that prepares students for their road test. Instructors run and rerun mock tests of actual skills and routes a DMV evaluator may ask them to perform.

After each mock test, instructors provide direct feedback on what you did well and what to work on. Whether it’s properly turning in an intersection on Main Street or parallel parking near McCook Beach, you’ll know just how to improve.

Driver License Road Test

Driver License Road Test at The Next Street

You can use one of our cars for your test and speak to a Next Street instructor beforehand about any last-minute questions or concerns.

The Next Street handles all necessary paperwork beforehand, letting you focus on successfully taking your exam.
