The Full Driver Education Bundle is the most comprehensive training program we offer in Massachusetts. It combines the 32-hour RMV-certified classroom course (including the 2-hour Parent/Guardian Class) with 12 hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction and 6 hours of in-car observation time. Designed for families seeking a complete, safety-focused experience, this program covers every stage of learning to drive, from classroom theory to real-world practice and Road-Test readiness. It satisfies all RMV teen driver education requirements and prepares students with the skills, awareness, and confidence to drive safely and responsibly for life. Meets all Massachusetts RMV requirements for new teen drivers.

What’s Included
Our Full Driver Education Bundle includes comprehensive Driver’s Ed classes, one-on-one driving lessons, and observation time. Taught by state-certified instructors, classes combine interactive discussions, real-world safety lessons, and a focus on confident, responsible driving.
Note: RMV testing fees are not included and must be paid directly to the RMV.
All scheduling and progress tracking are managed online through your Student Portal.
Classroom Sessions
This program includes fifteen 2-hour sessions, plus one 2-hour Parent/Guardian Class. Classes 1–15 can be taken in any order, at any time. Class 17—the final exam—cannot be taken until all other class requirements have been fulfilled. The Parent Class is required for guardians of new teen drivers who have not already taken the course in the past 5 years. Class sessions are available in weekday, weekend, and accelerated school break formats, with new sessions starting daily. You can take classes in any order and build a schedule that works for you.

Driving Lessons and Observation Time
Driving lessons and observation sessions are booked in 2-hour blocks. They are available 7 days a week from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM at any Next Street location. To get the most value from your instruction, we recommend taking at least 2 weeks and practicing for 10 hours at home between lessons.
Students can enroll anytime—even before turning 16—but must be at least 15 years and 9 months old to begin classroom instruction.
Classroom Sessions
No learner’s permit is required to start the classroom portion. This course helps new drivers prepare for the written permit test and start their Driver’s Ed journey with confidence.
Driving Lessons
All students must have a valid learner’s permit to schedule behind-the-wheel lessons. If your permit has a “B” restriction, you must wear your glasses or contacts during lessons.
Massachusetts has different requirements for getting a driver’s license depending on the student’s age.
Teens (16½–17)
- Be at least 16½ on test day
- Hold a learner’s permit for at least 6 months
- Complete a driver education program, including:
- 30 hours of classroom instruction, plus a 2-hour Parent Class
- 12 hours behind-the-wheel driving instruction
- 6 hours in-car observation
- Complete 40 hours of supervised driving with a parent/guardian
- Earn RMV Driver Education Certificate
Adults (18+)
- No waiting period required—you can test at any time after getting a learner’s permit
- Completing a driver education program is not required, but strongly recommended
- We recommend at least 40 hours of supervised driving practice before testing to ensure road readiness
Wait times are based on your permit issue date, not when you begin class.
A final exam must be completed and passed after all classroom sessions have been attended. Once this exam has been passed and all driving lessons and observation time have been completed, The Next Street will electronically submit your results to the Massachusetts RMV for processing. The RMV will then issue your Driver Education Certificate, which is required before scheduling a Road Test for students under 18. We recommend completing all components at least 5 days before your planned test date to allow for RMV processing time. Complete all classroom sessions, driving lessons, and observation time at least 5 days before your scheduled test date to ensure eligibility.
