A streamlined path to your Connecticut driver’s license for experienced drivers who completed their 8-Hour Driving Course with another school. Includes a 2-hour private driving lesson and your license test in a Next Street vehicle — no need to provide your own car. Note: International students must wait 90 days to test at The Next Street. If you have already failed your test at DMV or at another school, you will owe an additional $40 DMV Retest Fee before the test can be scheduled.

Driving Lesson
Driving lessons are booked in 2-hour blocks. These private, one-on-one lessons are available 7 days a week from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM at any Next Street location.
To get the most value from your instruction, we recommend taking at least 2 weeks and practicing for 10 hours at home between lessons.
License Test
License Tests at The Next Street are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
You must complete your driving lesson at least 5 days before your scheduled test date to remain eligible.
Driving Lessons
All students must have a valid learner’s permit to schedule behind-the-wheel lessons. If your permit has a “B” restriction, you must wear your glasses or contacts during lessons and your Road Test.
Students with permits may take their driving lesson before, during, or after their classroom course.
License Test
Before taking your Road Test, you must have:
- Your physical learner’s permit—no pictures or copies
- Completed all driving lessons and an 8-hour state-required safe driving course through any licensed Connecticut driving school at least 5 days before your Road Test
- Held your permit for the required minimum time:
- Adults (18+): 90 days
- Teens (16–17): 180 days (120 days if you’ve also completed a 30-hour driver education program)
Per DMV regulations, students must complete at least one 2-hour driving lesson with The Next Street before testing at our locations.
Connecticut requires an electronic Driver Education Certificate (e-DEC) for all driver education programs.
We’ll issue your e-DEC once you have:
- Completed all classes and driving lessons
- Passed all quizzes
- Signed all attendance forms
All requirements must be finished at least 5 days before your Road Test.
If you take your Road Test through The Next Street, we’ll automatically upload your e-DEC the night before your test date.

The Next Street’s state-certified instructors emphasize defensive driving, hazard awareness, and responsible decision-making. Whether in the classroom or behind the wheel, we create a calm, supportive environment at every turn.
Each lesson is conducted in a dual-controlled Next Street vehicle equipped with GPS tracking and video recording. Instructors can take control instantly, if needed.
