MA Driver's License Testing Services
You’ve done the work, practiced the skills, and you’re ready for test day. Now you get to choose how you want to take your road test in Massachusetts. The Next Street makes the process simple by offering two different testing options—both designed to remove the stress and confusion from an already big day.
Your Two Testing Options
1.) License Test at the RMV (in our car, with our instructor as your sponsor) – $150
A great fit if you want a traditional RMV test, but with the added comfort and support of The Next Street. Students must take at least a 2-hour lesson with The Next Street before testing. Home Pickups are not available.
What’s included:
- A state-approved TNS vehicle (clean, safe, dual-controlled)
- A TNS instructor as your road test sponsor, guiding you through what to expect and where to go
- Often earlier appointment availability compared to Test at The Next Street
- A smoother test-day experience without worrying about finding a car, borrowing one, or learning a new vehicle last minute
Best for students who:
- Want the predictability of our vehicle
- Prefer having a supportive, friendly sponsor at the RMV
- Need sooner appointment options
- Don’t have access to a reliable test-ready vehicle of their own
2.) License Test at The Next Street (at select TNS locations) – $119
Skip the RMV environment entirely and take your test at one of our comfortable, familiar TNS locations.
What’s included:
- A private testing environment at a TNS location you already know
- A friendly, calm atmosphere—far fewer distractions than the RMV
- A TNS vehicle for your test, ready to go
- Local convenience, often closer to home than an RMV branch
Best for students who:
- Feel anxious about testing at the RMV
- Want a quieter, more comfortable space
- Prefer to test where they practiced or learned
- Like the ease of a nearby location with simple parking and navigation
Which Option is Best for Me?
If you want earlier appointments, want to test in our car, and like having a TNS instructor by your side at the RMV, choose Test at the RMV.
If you want a more relaxed test environment and prefer to avoid the RMV entirely, choose Test at The Next Street.
Either way, you’re getting an easy, supportive experience designed around you—because that’s the TNS way.
Info About Our Scheduling
Test at the RMV Scheduling
Tests are offered at select RMV branches Tuesday-Friday from 8am-Noon. After purchasing, we will schedule the test for you at the RMV of your choice and meet you there on test day.
Test at The Next Street Scheduling
License test appointments at our select locations are released to us by the RMV on a month-by-month basis. You may purchase a license test during enrollment or anytime after in the student portal. Once you have completed all of your requirements and are eligible to test, you may contact us to schedule a license test appointment.
IMPORTANT:
- Per RMV policy, students MUST complete one 2 hour driving lesson with us to be eligible for a test with The Next Street.
- Students must complete all required classroom and driving lessons before we are able to schedule a test for you. Your lesson must be completed at least 5 days prior to your test date.

Understanding Massachusetts’ License Testing Requirements
The MA RMV requires new teen drivers applying for a license that they have a MA permit, completed a driver’s ed classroom program at a driving school, completed all purchased driving lessons and logged 40 hours of driving practice between lessons and at home practice at least 5 days before attending their license test appointment.
