Our 10-hour private driving lessons program offers the most supportive and comprehensive learning experience for new or nervous drivers. Across five 2-hour lessons with a state-certified Next Street instructor, students gain confidence through repetition, gradual exposure, and personalized feedback. This extended package gives students more time to absorb each skill before progressing, making it ideal for those who want to move at a steady, comfortable pace.

What You’ll Learn

Across the five driving lessons, students will cover:

  • Basic driving skills: accelerating, braking, steering
  • Traffic controls, signs, and right of way
  • Speed and space management
  • Parking Maneuvers 101: 3-point turns, pull-in parking
  • Parking Maneuvers 201: back-in parking, parallel parking, corrections
  • Multi-lane driving and intersection management
  • Highway training: entering, merging, lane discipline, safe exits
  • Defensive driving awareness and hazard anticipation
  • Final lesson: comprehensive review and pre-test preparation

Lesson 1 will focus on parking lot driving and quiet backroads to build basic control and confidence. 

Lesson 2 will advance to main roads and introduce safe traffic navigation. 

Lesson 3 focuses on multi-lane driving and navigating intersections. 

Lesson 4 advances to highway driving, including merging, speed control, and safe exits. 

Lesson 5 provides a comprehensive review, skill refinement, and test-readiness check. Lessons progress at the student’s pace—faster if skills come quickly, and slower if more time is needed to ensure safety and confidence.

Before You Book

Before booking your driving lesson, you’ll need:

  • A valid learner’s permit, driver’s license, or international license
  • Your physical permit—no pictures or copies
  • Glasses or contacts if your permit has a B restriction

Students with permits may take lessons before, during, or after their classroom course.

Know Before You Go

  • All lessons start and end at The Next Street—no home pickup/drop-off.
  • Lessons take place in The Next Street’s dual-controlled vehicles. We don’t conduct lessons in personal cars.
  • New lesson slots open every Thursday evening for the next 60 days. We don’t book out further than 60 days in advance. For the best availability, check the Student Portal on Thursday nights or join the Wait List.
  • Only one driving lesson per day is allowed.
  • All instruction is in English only.

Note: RMV testing fees are not included and must be paid directly to the RMV.

All scheduling and progress tracking are managed online through your Student Portal. Driving lessons and observation sessions are booked in 2-hour blocks. They are available 7 days a week from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM at any Next Street location. To get the most value from your instruction, we recommend taking at least 2 weeks and practicing for 10 hours at home between lessons.

Massachusetts has different requirements for getting a driver’s license depending on the student’s age.

Teens (16½–17)
  • Be at least 16½ on test day
  • Hold a learner’s permit for at least 6 months
  • Complete a driver education program, including:
    • 30 hours of classroom instruction, plus a 2-hour Parent Class
    • 12 hours behind-the-wheel driving instruction
    • 6 hours in-car observation
  • Complete 40 hours of supervised driving with a parent/guardian
  • Earn RMV Driver Education Certificate
Adults (18+)
  • No waiting period required—you can test at any time after getting a learner’s permit
  • Completing a driver education program is not required, but strongly recommended
  • We recommend at least 40 hours of supervised driving practice before testing to ensure road readiness

Wait times are based on your permit issue date, not when you begin class.


A final exam must be completed and passed after all classroom sessions have been attended. Once this exam has been passed and all driving lessons and observation time have been completed, The Next Street will electronically submit your results to the Massachusetts RMV for processing. The RMV will then issue your Driver Education Certificate, which is required before scheduling a Road Test for students under 18. We recommend completing all components at least 5 days before your planned test date to allow for RMV processing time. Complete all classroom sessions, driving lessons, and observation time at least 5 days before your scheduled test date to ensure eligibility.

  • Single-lesson purchases: Refundable within 6 months, minus a 10% processing fee
  • Bundle purchases: Non-refundable once any service in the bundle has been started
