Full Driver’s Education Course

Our comprehensive driver’s education course is designed for students ready to become confident licensed drivers. The program features 30 hours of engaging, in-person classroom instruction at our Northampton location, along with 12 hours of hands-on driving and 6 hours of observation time. You’ll dive into the rules of the road and learn the skills that’ll ensure you pass your test.

Our instructors will gradually start with the basics, then help you develop more advanced driving techniques and hone your decision-making skills as you navigate downtown Northampton, cruising past Smith College, or merging onto I-91. Not only are we dedicated to helping you learn how to drive, but we also teach the reasoning behind choices that keep you and others safe on the road.

Driving Lessons

Our behind-the-wheel lessons are tailored to meet your experience and comfort level. Each driving lesson is around 2 hours per session, giving you plenty of time to build your confidence and make real strides without feeling rushed. Your instructor starts with the basics to gauge your comfort level, ensuring you know how to apply traffic laws while practicing essential skills like:

  • Acceleration
  • Safe braking
  • Controlled turns
  • Effective parking techniques

From there, we’ll gradually introduce more advanced skills, such as lane positioning, speed control, and understanding traffic patterns. Our instructors will adapt their teaching style to match your pace, ensuring you fully grasp each skill before moving on. By the time you finish your required lesson time, you’ll master your road test and have the abilities necessary to stay safe behind the wheel.

Driver’s License Road Test at the Next Street

When the time comes, taking your road test doesn’t have to be a long, stressful wait at the RMV. At our Northampton, MA location, you can take your driver’s license road test onsite in a more comfortable and familiar environment.

We take care of the paperwork, provide a well-equipped vehicle, and have an instructor there as your test sponsor, ready to guide you through the entire process. Instead of dealing with a busy RMV parking lot, you’ll be testing in a familiar space where you’ve practiced before, making it feel much more relaxed.

An RMV examiner will come to our Northampton, MA location to conduct the evaluation, so you’re still completing the official Massachusetts road test. The real difference lies in the experience. You can ask your sponsor any last-minute questions, take a moment to gather your thoughts, and focus on doing your best.

If you want to take your road test at a Massachusetts RMV location, The Next Street can help you with that, too. With this option, you’ll get to use one of our state-approved vehicles and have a qualified Next Street instructor there to support you during the exam.

Our vehicles are properly insured and ready to go, so you can focus on passing your test without any last-minute worries. Your instructor will meet you at the RMV, help you check in, and stick with you throughout the entire process. Whether you’re testing in Northampton or at another nearby RMV location, having that support makes everything run smoothly.
